How Much Does a Freelancer Membership Cost?

There are both free and paid membership plans available for freelancers. Paid membership plans offer access to more prospective clients as well as other benefits. All plans come with a profile, placement in the freelancer directory, and the ability to submit proposals on jobs in your skill category.
Elance also deducts a service fee of between 6.75% and 8.75% from the payments made by the client. Elance offers a calculator on every proposal to help freelancers include this fee in the quote that offered to the client so they can see exactly what the final payment will be.

What is the Elance Level?

Your Elance level represent your achievements and activity on Elance. Higher levels indicate greater activity, earnings, and positive reviews. Levels are based on the points calculated in My Stats for three main criteria: Client Relationship, Service Delivery, and Marketing. To access your My Stats go to Find Work in the main navigation bar and click on My Stats.
Your stats are calculated separately for each category you are subscribed to, so if you have more jobs and history in one category you can have a different level compared to any of your other categories. All freelancers start at Level 1, and move up to higher levels as they gain more experience on Elance and accumulate more Points. For more information on My Stats, click here. Your level is part of what determines your search ranking and is also visible on the profile, proposals, and search results. It's an important part of having a effective profile on Elance so make sure to focus on being active on Elance and focus on completing successful jobs with positive feedback as these will help out your ranking and increase your points.

My Level Says "Not Available" Why?

If you navigate to an Elance profile directly from a URL, it defaults to an All Services view. The All Services view includes data from all categories a freelancer has worked in. Since levels are calculated on a per category basis, no Level will display if a specific category is not selected. To view the level for a particular category, simply select a category from the pull-down menu above the overview section on the freelancer's profile.
Please note: On the profile snapshot, there will be no Level visible. On the Job History page, where Level is displayed for a particular category, "Level not available" will show on the All Services view, along with a tool-tip indicating that a category must be selected to view Level.

What are Private Earnings?

Freelancers have the option to make their earnings private. If a freelancer has this option selected, earnings will show Private on their profile and in freelancer search results. Earnings will be visible to potential clients on the proposal page.

How to elect to make earnings private

The option to make earnings private is managed from the Settings section on the Profile. Go to Find Work --> Freelancer Profile. Click on Settings and check Do not publicly display my earnings on Elance (Only show to clients within proposals), and click Save.
Note: If you are logged into your Elance account, you will see your earnings on your Profile and search results, but other users will not your earnings.

Please note: Marking your earnings as private does not impact your Elance Level.
